You're More Ready Than You Think

You're More Ready Than You Think

There was a time in my life when I didn’t want to talk about my past. Not because it was the worst story in the world, but because there were parts of it I would have rather pretended never happened.

So I didn’t talk about it. I actually tried to present myself as someone who had it all together, someone who knew what it meant to walk with God and live a life that pleased Him. But that wasn’t the full truth.

Underneath that image, I still had questions, struggles, and things I didn’t understand. Deep down, I knew something I couldn’t ignore:

I couldn’t hide any of it from God.

Looking back now, I can see that I was more concerned with how I appeared to others than with being honest about where I really was. I was trying to preserve an image instead of living authentically.

What I Learned

The interesting thing is, I loved reading God’s Word.

I was drawn to the stories of His people, how He walked with them, how they would turn away, struggle, and then return again. That cycle of obedience and rebellion fascinated me.

I could see it clearly in them, but I wasn’t always willing to see it in myself.

The Turning Point

Now, years later, I can look back and realize I missed opportunities to be honest, connect with others, and share what God was doing in my life

because I was too focused on appearing like I had it all together.

What I’ve learned since then is God doesn’t use perfection. He uses honesty, humility, and people who are willing to be real about where they’ve been and what He’s done in their lives.

At this stage in my life, I can look back and almost smile.

In my 20s and 30s, I thought I knew so much. In reality, I knew very little. Yet, through all of it, God was patient. He didn’t rush me or give up on me.

And He won’t give up on you either.

Don't Hold Back

So if you’ve been holding back, waiting until you feel more “ready” or more “put together," I want to gently encourage you: Don’t wait. You don’t have to have everything figured out to be used by God.

You just have to be willing.

A Call to Action

This week, take one step beyond what feels comfortable. Not just a message or a thought, but have a real conversation. Be honest with someone.
Encourage someone intentionally. Share a piece of your story, not perfectly but truthfully.

Final Thoughts

The truth is, you are not disqualified by your past.
You are not limited by what you don’t know. And you don’t need to have it all together. God can use you right now.

Prayer

Lord, help us to let go of the need to appear perfect and give us the courage to be real. Show us how to love others well and use our lives to bring encouragement and hope. In Jesus' name, amen.
