When Surrender Feels Harder Than Waiting

When Surrender Feels Harder Than Waiting

Waiting is hard. But if I’m honest, sometimes surrender is even harder.

Because waiting still leaves room for my version of the story.

Waiting says, “Maybe God will do it.” But surrender says, “God, I trust You even if You do it differently than I imagined.”

And that’s where it gets tender, doesn’t it?

It’s one thing to trust God with whether a dream might be fulfilled. It’s another thing entirely to trust Him with how.

I think many of us can relate to this: we aren’t only asking God for an outcome; we’re asking Him for an outcome that looks a certain way. A timeline that makes sense. A path that feels safe. A story we can understand.

But Scripture gently reminds us:

We can make our plans, but the

Lord determines our steps.”

Proverbs 16:9 NLT

That verse doesn’t mean planning is wrong. It means God is the One who sees what we cannot see. And when we surrender, we’re not throwing our dream away. We’re placing it into the hands of the One who loves us most.

Sometimes surrender looks like praying:

“Lord, I still desire this, but I release my grip on the outcome.”

Sometimes surrender looks like tears.

Sometimes it looks like quiet trust, even when we don’t feel strong.

And sometimes surrender looks like obedience in small things, things that don’t seem connected to our dream at all.

This Week's Invitation

If you’re able, reach out to someone you haven’t spoken to in a while:

A simple phone call.
A short text.
A note in the mail.

Not to fix anything.
Not to perform.
Not to prove you’re “doing faith” correctly.

Just to love someone.

I’ve found this to be true: sometimes God meets us in the waiting, by turning our hearts outward.

And sometimes the smallest act of love becomes a doorway for God to do something new in us.

If surrender feels hard today, you are not alone.

God is faithful. He is kind. And He can be trusted with both the dream and the process.

Prayer

Lord, help me surrender what I cannot control.
Teach me to trust You not only with the dream, but with the way You choose to fulfill it. Give me peace as You establish my steps, and help me walk with You one day at a time. In Jesus’ name, amen.
