When Life Feels Like It's Starting Over...Again

When Life Feels Like It's Starting Over...Again

Every year as we celebrate Easter it’s a reminder of what God, through His Son Jesus, has done for us. It’s beyond amazing, really. And yet life doesn’t always pause long enough to let that truth settle in.

In the middle of day-to-day struggles, commitments, and unexpected events, it’s easy to forget how much God truly cares. It's easy to lose sight of the fact that He is always with us, even when we don’t understand what’s happening.

In a way, that’s where I find myself right now: not fully understanding what God is doing.

Just when there seems to be momentum, when things begin to make sense, life happens. The momentum fades, and it feels like I’m starting all over again.

Maybe you’ve been there too.

When Life Interrupts the Momentum

After a wonderful Easter celebration with our entire family, our granddaughter, grandson-in-law, and our four great-grandchildren stayed an additional three days and filled our house with energy, laughter, and lots of noise. They kept us on our toes, and every moment felt full.

Then, they left. The car pulled out of the driveway, and just like that the house grew quiet again.

There’s always a bit of a letdown in moments like that, a stillness that feels heavier than it should.

At the same time, a dear friend of mine is walking through a difficult and uncertain season. Her job is on the line due to circumstances beyond her control, and the new position she’s been given feels overwhelming. She needs direction and reassurance. She needs to know that God sees her.

At times like these, maybe the hardest question of all is: How do you trust God when you don’t know what He’s doing?

Scripture gives us a gentle reminder in

Proverbs 3:5-6 to "trust in the Lord with all your hearts; do not depend on your own understanding." That sounds beautiful until we’re in a situation where our understanding is exactly what we’re trying to hold onto.

But God never asks us to understand everything. He asks us to trust Him. In Isaiah 55:8-9 He tells us, "My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts. And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts." His perspective is eternal, while ours is limited to what we can see right now.

When Life Changes Without Warning

As if that wasn’t enough, neighbors we’ve come to know and love suddenly had a Uhaul truck in their driveway. They moved unexpectedly, with no goodbye, no drawn-out transition. They're just gone. And once again, it feels like starting over.

Life has a way of doing that, doesn’t it, reminding us that so much is beyond our control?

But maybe that’s the point. Maybe it’s in these very moments when things shift, when people leave and certainty disappears, that we are invited to anchor ourselves more deeply in what does not change:

God’s presence.
God’s faithfulness.
God’s plan.

Even when we can’t see it.

When Rejection and Uncertainty Collide

Recently, I received an email from a woman who had gone through a painful experience of rejection.

She shared how people she loved and trusted didn’t show up for her when she and her husband were moving. There was no support, no encouragement. Just basically a brief, distant response: “Have a nice life.”

Those words cut deeply. Now she finds herself in a new home, a new church, a new area feeling completely alone.

We began exchanging emails, and I had the privilege of praying for her. Then, something beautiful happened. She asked if there was anything she could pray for me.

That moment stayed with me because it’s a reminder that even in our pain, even in our uncertainty, God is still working, still connecting hearts.

God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NLT

It's not when we have it all figured out or when everything is resolved, but right in the middle of it.

When Your Past Starts Speaking Again

At the same time, as I continue writing and reflecting, I find myself revisiting parts of my own past, things I thought I had moved beyond, maybe even forgotten. Now I’m realizing those are the very things God wants me to share. In my doubts and uncertainties back then, God already knew what He was doing. He knew how He would use it.

Maybe the same is true for you. Maybe the things you’ve tried to forget, the things that felt like rejection, loss, or failure, are actually the very places where God planted purpose.

When we read Romans 8:28, it doesn’t say "some" things work together for good. It says "all" things.

Even the ones we don’t understand.

You Are Not Alone in This

If you’re in a season where life feels uncertain, like you’re starting over again, where you’re questioning what God is doing, you are not alone, not in your feelings, in your questions, and certainly not in your journey.

God sees you. He hasn’t forgotten you.

And even here, especially in these places, He is working.

A Final Thought

Yes, the answer is always prayer, but sometimes we need the reminder that someone understands what we are going through.

If that’s where you are today, I want you to know you don’t have to walk through it alone. I’m here. And more importantly, God is right there with you.

As Psalm 34:18 reminds us, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed."

Prayer

Lord, for the one reading this who feels uncertain, overwhelmed or alone, remind them that You are near and are working, even when they cannot see it.
Give them peace in the unknown and strength for today. Help them trust You, one step at a time. In Jesus' name, amen.
