What If God Didn't Waste Any of It?
What if the parts of your life you wish you could erase are the very parts God wants to use? Not just the obvious struggles, but the exhaustion and disappointment, the decisions you would change if you could. What if none of it was wasted?
My Story
There have been seasons in my life that felt completely draining. There were years of caregiving that left me physically and emotionally spent; also, a relationship that didn’t turn out the way I had hoped. At the time, those seasons felt like loss.
But looking back, I can see something different.
I didn’t just go through those experiences. They actually shaped me.
What It Produced
That broken relationship? It gave me discernment, and it gave me the ability to truly understand the pain of someone walking through heartbreak.
The truth is, you don’t fully understand that kind of disappointment unless you’ve lived it.
And those caregiving years? They stretched me beyond what I thought I could handle, but they also taught me things I never would have learned otherwise.
I learned how to navigate hospital systems, and how dementia slowly takes away memory and understanding. More than that, I learned that sometimes the most loving thing you can do is not correct but simply listen and gently empathize.
Those lessons didn’t come easily, but they weren’t wasted.
A Key Truth
God doesn’t just redeem outcomes. He repurposes experiences.
My Life Now
When I was younger, I dreamed of getting married and having four children. That didn’t happen the way I imagined. But today, at 70 years old, I find myself loving and caring for four great-grandchildren, something I never could have planned or even envisioned. I can say with confidence I wouldn’t change the story God has written.
Honest Reflection
I’m still learning. God is showing me that if I’m going to walk in what He’s calling me to do, I can’t hide the past or try to present myself as a “perfect Christian.” That person doesn’t exist.
What He’s asking for instead is honesty with myself,
with Him, and with others. I don't have to share everything, just what He leads, in the way He leads.
Outward Focus
Someone around you needs what you’ve learned.
It may not be your exact story, but something close enough that your words will matter. So don’t hold back out of fear. Be intentional, not general.
Call to Action
This week, ask God to bring one person to mind.
Then reach out to that one. Write a note. Send a message. Share a memory. Offer encouragement.
You don’t need perfect words, just a willing heart.
Final Thoughts
God wastes nothing. He is intentional, merciful, and kind.
So remember, every part of your story is still being written.
Prayer
Lord, thank You that You don’t waste any part of our lives. Teach us how to be honest, available, and willing to encourage others with what You’ve done in us. Guide us by Your Spirit and help us trust You more each day. In Jesus' name, amen.
