Preparing Our Hearts for Christmas

It’s already the middle of October. Christmas is just around the corner. Really, it will be here before we know it!

The question is: How are you preparing for this monumental holiday?

It’s so easy to get caught up in the lists, the decorations, and the endless to-dos. But beneath all the wrapping paper and ribbon lies the real wonder of Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ.

Do we stop to think about Him? Or has Jesus become an addendum to the activities that surround our celebration?

As parents, grandparents, or mentors, we have the privilege of shaping how the next generation experiences Christmas. Do our children know that the birth of Christ changed the world forever? Do they understand that He didn’t just come to be a baby in a manger but to offer salvation, hope, and eternal life?

Start New Traditions

This season, let’s be intentional about pointing hearts back to the reason for our celebration. Read the story of His birth together. Light a candle and talk about what it means that Jesus is the Light of the World. Choose traditions that focus on giving rather than getting. Pray as a family and thank God for the gift of His Son.

The countdown to Christmas has begun, but it’s not just a countdown to a day. It’s an invitation to prepare our hearts for the One who came to save us.
