What Progress Did You Make this Week?
Are you still feeling overwhelmed as the holidays inch closer? If so, take a deep breath. You are definitely not alone.
After writing last week about rethinking Christmas, I decided to follow my own advice and start early. I also picked up a copy of Debt-Proof Your Christmas by Mary Hunt, and I’m already more than halfway through.
Although the book was written nearly a decade ago, her suggestions are as relevant today as ever. She offers a multitude of creative gift-giving ideas, thoughtful, one-of-a-kind gifts that come from the heart and make your giving special.
It’s refreshing to be reminded that generosity doesn’t have to mean extravagance. Sometimes the most meaningful gifts are the ones that cost the least, such as a handwritten note, a framed photo, or a shared memory that brings a smile.
Of course, we can’t forget about Thanksgiving! With both holidays so close together, planning meals, preparing for guests, and juggling Christmas preparations all at once, it’s easy to feel pulled in all directions.
But what if we slowed down a bit? What if we let gratitude lead the way?
When we pause to give thanks, it helps us see the season with fresh eyes. It’s not about the gifts or the glitter. It’s about our families, our traditions, and most importantly, about Jesus, the true reason for the season. His arrival into this world was announced in the most extraordinary way:
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men.” Luke 2:14
So as you move into the next week, take one small, intentional step. Maybe finish your gift list, plan a family tradition, or simply set aside time to rest and reflect.
Progress, not perfection, is what keeps the joy alive.
A Holiday Prayer
Lord, thank You for this beautiful season of gratitude and joy. Help us slow down long enough to feel Your presence in the midst of the busyness.
Remind us that love, not things, is the greatest gift we can give. May our hearts and homes reflect Your peace, and may we celebrate both Thanksgiving and Christmas with grateful, joyful hearts.
Amen.
