Did I Miss God’s Plan or Am I Right Where He Can Use Me?
Have you ever looked back on a decision and wondered: Did I mess that up? We're not talking about just a small mistake but something that felt significant; something that makes you question whether things would look different today if you had chosen another path.
It’s a quiet question, but a heavy one, Did I miss God’s plan?
Going Deeper
I’ve asked that question before. There have been moments where I knew what the right decision was and still didn’t follow through the way I should have. There were times I went back to something I already knew wasn’t right, hoping it would be different or that maybe I had misunderstood.
Instead, it led to more confusion, disappointment, and questions. For a while, I wondered if I had complicated things beyond repair.
Maybe you’ve felt that, too.
Here's the Truth
What I’ve come to understand over time is God is not limited by our imperfect decisions. His ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9), which means He sees what we cannot. Somehow, in ways we don’t always understand, He is able to work all things together for good (Romans 8:28). Not just the parts we got right, but all of it, even the moments we second-guessed and we wish we could redo.
Something I’m Still Learning
We can spend so much time looking backward, replaying decisions, questioning ourselves, wondering what might have been, that we miss what God is inviting us into right now, which is not just healing but purpose.
The truth is, your story, exactly as it is, may be the very thing God wants to use to reach someone else.
Your Neighbor is Not Just the Person Next Door
When Jesus was asked what mattered most, He made it simple: Love God, and love others.
Loving others doesn’t always require big
answers or perfect words. Sometimes it looks
like noticing someone who is struggling, offering encouragement, sharing a piece of your own story, or simply reminding someone they are not alone
Your “neighbor” is not just the person next door.
It’s anyone who needs to know someone understands and cares.
Consider This
Here’s something simple to consider this week:
If nothing else, write a letter, send a message, reach out to someone who comes to mind. Tell them you were thinking about them. Share a memory that means something to you. Tell them how much they matter to you.
You don’t have to explain everything you’ve been through. Just be willing to show up. You never know how much that might mean to someone who needs it.
Final Thoughts
So if you’ve been wondering, Did I miss God’s plan, maybe the better question is: What is God inviting me into right now?
Always remember you are not disqualified. You are not behind. Your story is not something to hide.
It may be exactly what someone else needs.
Prayer
Lord, help us to trust that You are not limited by our past. Show us how to love others right where we are, with what we have. Give us the courage to step outside of ourselves and be a light to someone who needs it. In Jesus' precious name, amen.
